cookie face

It's taken me forever to capture the cuteness on camera.
Hux has a new silly cheeseface he likes to flash us. It seriously breaks my heart into a thousand pieces that then proceed to melt away---we've dubbed it "cookie face".

[No, not this...but he does like cookies in his face.]

[this. is. cookie face.]

green your air--the plant for plant killers & green living lovers alike

Green Your Air has hit the nail on the head when it comes to detoxifying the air in your home naturally.

I had been searching high & low for green ways of removing toxins and chemicals from our little space--air purifiers are expensive, and most scented things make me nauseous (& they are only covering up smells---not removing). I'd known that certain plants filter out more toxins & junk than others (peace lily, and mums being on that list), but I did not know a wider variety of plants or what they filtered out specifically.

The ladies at Green Your Air, Maryam & Jennifer are dedicated to delivering only the best plants which they choose from a local family-owned nursery. Each plant on their menu filters at least one harmful chemical from the air--my favorite part about them (aside from how gorgeous they are!)
Another cool thing about these babies is the pots they come in are made of bamboo fiber, rice husks, wheat straw, and corn stalks---nontoxic, and biodegradable!

The ladies at Green Your Air were kind enough to send us the powerhouse plant which combines all of their featured plants into one---it filters out chemicals such as benzene, trichloroethylene, xylene and tuolene which can introduced into your home via paints, detergents, printers, carpets, floor coverings, particle board, and wall coverings.

& the best part about their plants?...
Almost impossible to kill!

Exibit A:
Our house plant collection we've struggled to keep alive for about a year.

Exibit B:
a Green Your Air plant that is relentless, and so easy to care for--after months of having it green up our place it is still as gorgeous as the day it arrived!

We're re-writing the books.

To say Huxley disliked his crib would be understatement of the year.
He simply cannot stand it & we've tried everything to convince him it's the snuggliest, best place for him to rest his sweet little head.

He's not convinced.

We set him up with a mobile, nightlight, sound machine, nice sheets, a little pillow that once belonged to Mommy, lavender scent, warm comfy jammies, and his favorite blanket made by the "Big GG", back rubs, songs, you name it--& the little Prince has it.

No dice.

So last night we were at our wits end after visiting the doctor & having him semi-lecture me about him sleeping in our bed.

One of the sleep methods instructs the parent to go in and soothe the child as you're allowing them to adjust to their crib (aka cry their eyes out) but says DO NOT PICK CHILD UP.

It's terrible. I can't do it.

So I climbed in...

& he fell asleep.

(and then stupid me turned the light out after I'd climbed back out and he instantly sprang up completely distraught....fail...we'll try again when he isn't feeling so under the weather...maybe.)

sickie baby.

We've been riddled with cold & flu grossness.
Just as I started to get over having pneumonia (for weeks) Matt came down with a sinus infection, and shortly after Hux & I followed suit.
It was all we to could to muster up energy to care for Huxley--who will always be our main priority. All I wanted was for him to be comfortable, and able to breathe.

(but man does this kid hate the booger sucker ball!!)

We're still under the weather, and I'm sorry we don't have any super cute Halloween photos to post. I had to work last night, and Huxley is still sick so I scrapped any thought of a costume.
Matt was cute & dressed Hux up as a baseball player to surprise me when I got home.

If you could send some good vibes our way for our health to return to normal that would be oh so lovely!

winter Hux.

It's 37 & snowing.
In my mind it's close to perfect...
Although I'd prefer to be near some mountains, skis ready & a baby sitter lined up for the Huxman.
I just love the kind of weather that forces you to bundle up.
A lot of my favorite memories have a snowy backdrop.
It was snowing when Huxley was born.
Oh, the look on his sweet little face when we showed him the snow this morning.
He was smiling this quiet little smile.
That is perfection.

the messiest lunch yet...

Huxley has been getting quite adventurous with foods this week.
Quite.
He had a little lull for a few weeks where he just preferred nursing over food, but now I think he's going through another big growth spurt and has been just ravenous!

He's become a fan of citrus fruits, which I don't give him in access for fear of hurting his tummy (or teeth). Hux also loves Ezekiel Sprouted Cinnamon Raisin toast, and Calbee Pea Crisps (and so does Mama!).

We also have our daily milk & cookie time together---a time I am very fond of, and hope to continue this for....ever.

Today I shared my lunch with him: Butternut Squash Ravioli, peas, and grapefruit. Hux also had an Earth's Best Orange Banana squeeze pouch, and some Pea Crisps...I'll let the photos do the talking but man, we had a mess & Huxley was promptly stuck into a nice warm bath afterwards.

Gunapod Teddy Bear & Turkey Bacon Obsession

Huxley loves turkey bacon.
Lovvvessss it.
It's like a flavored teething strip that he eats.

He also loves his new Gunapod by Gunamuna!
It's perfect for cold mornings in our drafty little apartment, and it is seriously the best little thing ever. There are several zippers and snaps making it a breeze to put it on his wiggly little bod, and bonus...he feels like a snuggly little teddy bear in it! Huxley likes that he can still crawl & walk around in it since you can unzip the bottom to free up his feet (or buckle him into a carseat).

Thanks Gunamuna for keeping our little teddy safely warm!

Vegan Broccoli Cheddar Soup

I just had to post this yummy recipe! I've been craving broccoli cheddar soup lately, but (sigh) cannot have the real thing...so last night I macgyvered a dairy-free version using items I already had in the kitchen.
It turned out SO flippin' good, even Matt & Hux gobbled it up!

Vegan Broccoli Cheddar Soup
So Delicious Unsweetened Coconut Milk
Organic Broccoli
Daiya Vegan Cheddar Cheese
Onion
Garlic
Vegan Margarine
Nutritional Yeast
Vegan Sour Cream
Salt & Pepper

-Steam broccoli
-Simmer Onion, Garlic with Vegan Margarine
-Toss in Broccoli
-Add enough So Delicious Coconut Milk to cover
-Add remaining ingredients to taste
-Blend

& enjoy!

in a perfect world...

...Lake Michigan would be just outside our door & our family would all be a short drive away.

Unfortunately, we live in a world that does not compromise easily...if at all.
But we are blessed to have family able to travel to us, and that we have jobs (period) where we can take time off to return the visit.

When we first found out we were pregnant the hardest part for me was being so far from my family. Although it was & has been tough, and I feel as though I am robbing a lot of people of Huxley, Matt & I have grown so much as people--as parents--going at this, basically, just the three of us.

It's different for Matt, as most of his family is nearby---and I love that. So he can't exactly relate, and has to deal with many of my "Missing Michigan" moments. Have I mentioned lately how amazing Matt is? He's amazing.

I just keep thinking of how this distance will change Huxley as a person. I want him grow up with a strong sense of family, and a deep love for his Grandparents and other family members.

So--we work hard everyday, saving, and planning for his future. Whatever that may hold, God only knows, but we have our hopes.
I love watching it unfold.
Huxley is just all sorts of wonderful, growing and shaping & reshaping everyday.
