Hux's First Car Wash

It has been nothing sort of gorgeous here in Philadelphia & we have been out and about soaking in these last nice days. Soon enough we'll have to bundle up, and trudge through snow to get anywhere...blech.

The car needed a bath BADLY so on Saturday we took it to one of those drive through places with the tri-color soap...yep...TRI-color!
[totally work the few extra bucks!]

Huxley had a blast & even got to help Mommy drive through it...which was probably his favorite part.

Mine was watching his sweet little face and the expressions of him taking this new adventure in...that's my hobby now, actually...watching Hux watch things that I have seen a million times before with new eyes and this unscuffed heart & brain...it's beyond words.

Huxley's First Thanksgiving...in the books.

Hux, Chief of Thanksgiving, liked the pumpernickel bread the best.
Aside from not napping the entire day & still having some kind of cold, Huxley had a blast!
It was gorgeous outside, and he got lots of attention (per usual) & new foods to try.
Daddy wins some kind of award for cooking two turkeys, ten side dishes, rolls, and entertaining guests (all while watching Hux) while Mama worked until 1pm.

We hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving as well, and wish you a happy weekend to boot!

giving thanks.

[Scarf & Cardigan c/o Mini Mioche]

There is so much to be thankful for in my life, a lot which are quite obvious (like my amazing partner/friend/love Matt, Huxley---who is the best thing that's ever happened to me, my parents--whom I love, adore, admire, respect, & wish were so much closer, and all of my family---our health, roofs over our heads, and food in our tummies. God is good, man. God is good.)

& some things I completely take for granted.

You know, the little things like...

a hot bubble bath
soft snuggly blankets
drooly baby kisses
diesel VW's
pancake mornings
all things woodland
new books
Kiehl's
Gmail Video Chat
ink
sunny cold days
handwritten letters
our fireplace
red wine
fresh snow
Hux smiles
vegan foods
my sewing machine
presents in the mail
clean sheets
hot & sour soup
story time
Hux's laugh
Tazo Pomegranate Plum Iced Tea

& last but not least...I am thankful for you!

TIMO Handmade Giveaway!

***GIVEAWAY CLOSED***
As you probably have gathered, I am a huge fan of Etsy--- I have stumbled upon some the most creative people in the world on Etsy, and Timor, creator of TIMO Handmade, may just be my favorite!

TIMO is a small, hand-made design line based out of Israel.
Being hand-made, each and every item is one of a kind--sewn with an eye for detail and a touch for fabric.

TIMO came about when the creator discovered they'd accumulated a large textile collection, which included a small case of multicolored threads, a old favorite shirt, a jar of buttons with no apparent relation to one another, a handkerchief Timor's grandfather’s initials, an embroidered pillow cover, hole included, and on and on. Timor's desire to sew these together, to make something new, was the realization of TIMO.

TIMO is part of the EcoDesign trend, standing up for the right consumption and the right manufacturing, alongside recycling, minimization of manufacturing waste and simplification of processes.

TIMO is a collection, a game and a source of livelihood, all taking place in Timor's own home, and thanks to Timor's generosity, one lucky reader will receive $50 USD towards TIMO Handmade!

"I feel that in painting you have to mix the colors on the palette and in the world of fabrics the palette is ready and I only need to look for connections. It’s also nice not to have to be practical in my designs (like one must be when designing clothes or furniture). When a product doesn’t have to meet any practical need, it allows for a lot of freedom – and it also leaves room for the consumer to decide how to relate to it."
-Timor Cohen

our rough & tumble rugger...

Hux will be 11 months in just a few short weeks.
Crazy.
Almost a 1 year old, and it has been one amazing journey.

Huxley's been walking for a few weeks now, consistently, and getting in even more trouble than usual.

Our days consist of chasing him from room to room, and escorting him out of rooms he isn't allowed to play in (ie kitchen, Mama & Daddy's bedroom & bathroom)...the other rooms are essentially Hux proof, although he's managed to show us that nothing truly is safe as he is quite rough & tumble--biting his tongue and bumping his head barely phase this kid.

As far as food goes, we liken Hux to Slimer from Ghost Busters. The food goes in & then is spit out, and 99% of it ends up on the floor. He has, however, mastered the squeezy pouch foods and sucks them dry! He's still nursing up to 15 times a day, and getting a little bit of his special formula. We've slowly started to introduce some dairy into his diet, but it doesn't sit well on his tummy so we're doing it in very small servings for now.

Huxley enjoys playing with obscure objects found throughout the home--the TV remote, the lever to the recliner, cardboard boxes & mixing bowls are all very fun things to him...I am SO glad we haven't wasted money on plastic junk.

We are all finally in good health again, and enjoying these lovely late fall days. I am very excited for all of these first holidays coming up--especially Christmas, which you will find quite obvious on our blog.

We thank you so much for all of your love & support and send nothing but good things your way.

we're on the good list, are you?

When I was little I would cut out every single toy & trinket I wanted out of stacks of catalogs & magazines and then carefully paste them into a little makeshift book I'd created with printer paper & a stapler.

Armed with a glue stick & some scissors I went about fashioning the most dreamy wish lists that I would then present to my parents (who most definitely balked at my steep requests).

It wasn't necessarily about getting everything that was stuck to those pages--I don't recall a single Christmas morning being disappointed or feeling without--no, I enjoyed compiling those books and flipping through page after page of those catalogs.

& now here I am armed with the internet....

I'll be putting up Wish Lists of amazing gifts & ideas for all of you-- in hopes that you find something super cool to gift to your loved ones!

& so, here are a few precious things that are perfect perfect perfect for baby...

Bla Bla Sunset Bretagne Sweater
& other of many cute finds on Bla Bla Kids

A subscription to Bluum
---the gift that keeps on giving!! Every box contains deluxe samples hand-picked to pamper both Mama and baby.

& for Mama...

Winter time makes for dry, uncomfortable hands---give the gift of pampered mits with Weledas Hand Creams
(In Pomegranate Regenerating, Sea Buckhorn which softens and protects & my personal favorite-- Skin Food for dry rough hands.)

More Wish Lists to come! Keep on the lookout & hey, if you have a second, could you click the vote button on the top left & give Hux some internet love?

cookie face

It's taken me forever to capture the cuteness on camera.
Hux has a new silly cheeseface he likes to flash us. It seriously breaks my heart into a thousand pieces that then proceed to melt away---we've dubbed it "cookie face".

[No, not this...but he does like cookies in his face.]

green your air--the plant for plant killers & green living lovers alike

Green Your Air has hit the nail on the head when it comes to detoxifying the air in your home naturally.

I had been searching high & low for green ways of removing toxins and chemicals from our little space--air purifiers are expensive, and most scented things make me nauseous (& they are only covering up smells---not removing). I'd known that certain plants filter out more toxins & junk than others (peace lily, and mums being on that list), but I did not know a wider variety of plants or what they filtered out specifically.

The ladies at Green Your Air, Maryam & Jennifer are dedicated to delivering only the best plants which they choose from a local family-owned nursery. Each plant on their menu filters at least one harmful chemical from the air--my favorite part about them (aside from how gorgeous they are!)
Another cool thing about these babies is the pots they come in are made of bamboo fiber, rice husks, wheat straw, and corn stalks---nontoxic, and biodegradable!

The ladies at Green Your Air were kind enough to send us the powerhouse plant which combines all of their featured plants into one---it filters out chemicals such as benzene, trichloroethylene, xylene and tuolene which can introduced into your home via paints, detergents, printers, carpets, floor coverings, particle board, and wall coverings.

& the best part about their plants?...
Almost impossible to kill!

Exibit A:
Our house plant collection we've struggled to keep alive for about a year.

Exibit B:
a Green Your Air plant that is relentless, and so easy to care for--after months of having it green up our place it is still as gorgeous as the day it arrived!

We're re-writing the books.

To say Huxley disliked his crib would be understatement of the year.
He simply cannot stand it & we've tried everything to convince him it's the snuggliest, best place for him to rest his sweet little head.

He's not convinced.

We set him up with a mobile, nightlight, sound machine, nice sheets, a little pillow that once belonged to Mommy, lavender scent, warm comfy jammies, and his favorite blanket made by the "Big GG", back rubs, songs, you name it--& the little Prince has it.

No dice.

So last night we were at our wits end after visiting the doctor & having him semi-lecture me about him sleeping in our bed.

One of the sleep methods instructs the parent to go in and soothe the child as you're allowing them to adjust to their crib (aka cry their eyes out) but says DO NOT PICK CHILD UP.

It's terrible. I can't do it.

So I climbed in...

& he fell asleep.

(and then stupid me turned the light out after I'd climbed back out and he instantly sprang up completely distraught....fail...we'll try again when he isn't feeling so under the weather...maybe.)

sickie baby.

We've been riddled with cold & flu grossness.
Just as I started to get over having pneumonia (for weeks) Matt came down with a sinus infection, and shortly after Hux & I followed suit.
It was all we to could to muster up energy to care for Huxley--who will always be our main priority. All I wanted was for him to be comfortable, and able to breathe.

(but man does this kid hate the booger sucker ball!!)

We're still under the weather, and I'm sorry we don't have any super cute Halloween photos to post. I had to work last night, and Huxley is still sick so I scrapped any thought of a costume.
Matt was cute & dressed Hux up as a baseball player to surprise me when I got home.

If you could send some good vibes our way for our health to return to normal that would be oh so lovely!
